Large, high profile, innovative leader in the legal company is looking for a Communications Specialist to join their dynamic team. The Communications Specialist will report to the Director, Marketing and Communications to effectively promote their brand. The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Director, Marketing and Communications and the outside PR agency to implement a strategic public relations plan to reinforce their brand and marketing and practice development activities. He/she will act as the communications/PR liaison between the media and company's panelists and employees. The Communications Specialist will draft public relations and marketing materials including press releases, content for the web site and their intranet, media survey responses, and information for “top” or “best of” lists. The Communications Specialist will also assist with the drafting/editing of articles for neutrals as well as with various internal communications items. In addition, it is important that the Communications Specialist serve as a model representative of they company in the community.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Act as the first point of contact regarding PR for the media, neutrals, and associates.
- Work with Director, Marketing and Communications and PR agency to actively seek PR opportunities.
- Place neutral authored articles in legal trade and business publications.
- Coordinate press coverage for conferences, events, and other activities.
- Draft new neutral launch and other press releases.
- Assist with e-campaign development.
- Work with Practice Development Managers, Regional Directors/VP and VP, Panel Relations to
optimize the launches of new neutrals. Draft web features, and ensure “news” sections of the site are up to date.
- Proofread releases, collateral, and other marketing materials.
- Assist with updating the Intranet.
- Revise press kit materials and other PR documents as necessary.
- Track media hits and produce regular media reports.
- Maintain clippings archive/database.
- Monitor legal media on a daily basis.
- Monitor key legal web sites, blogs, and discussion forums.
- Maintain corporate presence on select social/business networking sites.
- Assist interested neutrals with appropriate development of online profiles.
- Order and manage reprint requests (incoming and outgoing.)
- Develop section of branding and style guide devoted to press releases.
- Edit and write content for company's publications.
- Enhance visibility of companywide initiatives through internal and external communications as needed.
- Research conferences for speaker opportunities and forward pitches to those organizations.
- Assist in crisis communications.
Qualifications: *Public relations: must have proven track record of success in the area of PR and media relations. *Technical skills: computer literate and proficient in basic business software, e.g. WORD, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. *Web skills: Solid knowledge of PR, business, and social media web sites. Familiarity with legal web sites a plus. *Must have strong organization, communication, collaboration and leadership skills. *Bachelor's degree with emphasis on PR, Communications or related areas. *4-5 years in a corporate or law firm communications department, or with a PR agency. Legal or professional services background a plus. *Contacts with legal or business publications desired. *Effectively communicate with the media and the public regarding our services, policies, procedures, etc. *Handle issues involving the media or public who are sometimes impatient or aggressive *Travel 10 – 15% of the time
*Represents basic qualifications for this position. To be considered for this position you must at least meet the basic qualifications. Salary up to $75,000.
